Preston Music Group commissioned the very talented Rodney Jackson to create this series of illustrations of Billy, this is the first in the series and depicts Billy Preston at 9 Years old.
Born on September 2, 1946 in Houston, Texas. His family relocated to Los Angeles when he was three years old. A child prodigy, Preston began playing piano while sitting on his mother’s lap, and by age ten, he was playing the organ onstage for gospel singers such as Mahalia Jackson, James Cleveland and Andrae Crouch. At twelve years of age, he played a young W.C. Handy in the W.C. Handy biopic,St. Louis Blues,starring Nat King Cole. The previous year, Preston had appeared on Cole's national TV show singing the Fats Domino hit, "Blueberry Hill."
Billy Preston rose to fame as a session musician who worked with Sam Cooke, Ray Charles and The Beatles, and he later had a successful solo career with hits such as "Outa-Space," "Space Race," "Will It Go Round in Circles" and "Nothing from Nothing.” He also collaborated with Eric Clapton and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, among others.
