Miles Dewey Davis III (May 26, 1926 – Sep 28, 1991) was an American jazz musician, trumpeter, composer and bandleader. One of the most influential and innovative musicians of the 20th century, in late '44 Miles moved to New York City to studyMusic. Once there he made contact with his idol, Charlie Parker and became one of a group who held jam sessions in Harlem night clubs with the likes of Thelonious Monk & Kenny Clarke.
Many well-known musicians rose to prominence as members of Davis's ensembles, including Gerry Mulligan, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, George Coleman, Wayne Shorter and Kenny Garrett;J J Johnson;Horace Silver, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea and Kei Akagi; John McLaughlin, Pete Cosey, John Scofield and Mike Stern; Paul Chambers, Ron Carter, Dave Holland Marcus Miller and Daryl Jones; and Elvin Jones, Philly Joe Jones, Jimmy Cobb, Tony Williams, Billy Cobham, Jack DeJohnette and Al Foster.
