John Coltrane T-Shirt. John Coltrane T-Shirt design featuring John Coltrane's circle of fifths chart alongside Coltrane's signature in the bottom left corner. John gave this drawing to  saxophonist and professor, Yusef Lateef, Coltrane's colleague and tutor. 

The outer circle is the whole tone scale starting in C as all the numbers indicate, the inner circle is also a whole tone scale but it starts in B. Hence together, all 12 notes are on the circle.

When you cross between the inner and outer circle going along the circle (inner, outer, inner, outer...), you get the circle of fifths. See C, G, D, A, E, B...

In essence, by starting on any note, when you draw different geometric shapes, like the start he drew, you get different outcomes for chords and or scales.
