This Billy Preston T-Shirt is part of a series of T-shirts commemorating what would have been Billy Preston's 70th Birthday (September 2nd 2016).
Preston Music Group commissioned the very talented Rodney Jackson to create this series of illustrations of Billy. This is the second in the series and depicts Billy Preston at around 25 years old.
In 1962, Preston joined Little Richard's band as an organist. While performing at The Star Club in Hamburg, he met The Beatles, who were the opening act. In 1963 he played the organ on Sam Cooke's Night Beat album and released his debut album, 16 yr Old Soul, on Cooke's SAR Records label. In 1965, he released the album The Most Exciting Organ Ever, and he played organ on the rock and roll show, Shindig! In 1967, he joined Ray Charles' band, which led several musicians, including The Beatles, to ask Preston to join them for recording sessions. Preston appeared on two Beatles albums, Abbey Road and Let It Be.
Billy Preston rose to fame as a session musician who worked with Sam Cooke, Ray Charles and The Beatles, and he later had a successful solo career with hits such as "Outa-Space," "Space Race," "Will It Go Round in Circles" and "Nothing from Nothing.” He also collaborated with Eric Clapton and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, among others.
