John Lennon - Boy Howdy T-Shirt

John Lennon photographed at the Record Plant NYC 1972, his first American session. John & Yoko were big fans of CREEM Magazine, they wrote letters to the rag often and even submitted some of their drawings that were also published.

The legendary rock rag’s mascot Boy Howdy! was created in 1969 for CREEM by R.Crumb, notorious perverto cartoonist and western mystic. John picked up a stash of Boy Howdy! T-shirts when he and Yoko visited Ann Arbor Michigan.

They visited CREEM’S backyard to join forces and raise voices to Free John Sinclair along with the Plastic Ono Band, Commander Cody, Jerry Rubin and a cast of 1000s. The cause of “John Sinclair” was also immortalized in song on John & Yoko’s Sometime in NYC album.

Alice Cooper, Ron Wood, Debbie Harry, Courtney Love and Mike Watt have all sported the famous glass bottle on their chest.

Shortly after turning 30, Boy Howdy! reached iconic status with his cameo appearance in the movie Almost Famous, rubbing right up against Kate Hudson’s perky li’l PennyLane.
