Steve Marriott - rock/soul singer, songwriter, guitarist and 60's style icon. Steve Marriott is best remembered for his musical work in the groups the Small Faces ('65-'69) and Humble Pie ('69-'75). The Small Faces, were a respected mod band, highly regarded by the youth cult's followers. Steve Marriott was one of many influences on the formation and musical style of premier British hard rock group Led Zeppelin. Steve Marriott is also reputed to have been Jimmy Page's benchmark when selecting a lead singer for Led Zeppelin.
Steve Marriott was the eternal street kid. After his stage debut in the West End musical Oliver, he was chucked out of school (for setting fire to it!) Steve spent more time listening to Alexis Korners record collection - and sleeping on his couch - than coming to terms with any career move. after a spell with his band, The Moments, Steve formed The Small Faces. The bands first success was the mod-soul Watcha Gonna Do bout It, followed by Sha-la-la Lee. For three years, a career with wonderful singles continued, All Or Nothing, Here Come The Nice, Itchycoo Park. Paul Weller, of The Jam and Noel Gallagher of Oasis have both cited Steve Marriott as a massive influence in their music style. |
