Stony Brook is a university in New York and especially during the 60’s and seventies played host to the most phenomenal line up of acts in rock and roll. Their past concert’s artists reads like a who’s who of music genius or a “who to listen if you want to be cool” check list, from Jimi Hendrix to Joni Mitchell, the Clash and the Ramones. Frank Zappa played here four times, selling out every time and this shot is taken from his 1980 concert, the third time he performed here. As the greed of the eighties crept in, the venue was used less and less as bigger venues were wanted to bring in bigger bucks.
The University however is supported still by a great non-commercial, free form radio station WUSB. |
