Meher Baba - Don't Worry Be Happy T-Shirt
Merwan Sheriar Irani, an Indian mystic given the name Meher Baba ("compassionate father") by his followers, declared himself the "Avatar of the Age" and attracted a large and devoted group of admirers in the West during the 1960s. Perhaps the most famous of these was Pete Townshend of The Who, many of whose songs (and all of whose rock opera "Tommy") reflect Meher Baba's teachings; indeed, the Indian sage is the "Baba" referenced in the classic Who song "Baba O'Riley." The spiritualist was particularly outspoken in his criticism of drugs, pronouncing them useless for the pursuit of enlightenment as early as 1966.
"Don't Worry, Be Happy" was a Meher Baba slogan long before it was a hit song by Bobby McFerrin, although the latter based his song on a poster he'd seen of Baba.
Our Meher Baba "Don't Worry Be Happy" T-shirt is fully licensed, endorsed and made from the softest, prewashed and shrunk cotton jersey. We faithfully reproduce the original article as tracked down by Worn Free from archive images.
