If Joe Strummer and The Clash hadn't yet achieved global stardom in 1978, when the band's frontman was snapped in our Dragon shirt by the great Bob Gruen, they were certainly approaching a creative peak. Their second album, Give 'Em Enough Rope, reached #2 in the UK, and they would soon get to work on their breakthrough, the sprawling masterpiece London Calling. So while Joe Strummer did not yet have the force of a dragon on the world pop stage, he was certainly gathering strength.
